Travelling has been a struggle since the pandemic began and surely everyone could use a lot of R&R out of the city right now. Answering the call is Banyan Tree Krabi, which is inviting guests to bathe in the forest as a recreational activity to breathe easy amidst a perfect environment.
Forest bathing, or shinrin-yoku in Japanese, was originally developed in Japan in the 1980s. The concept was simply to take in the fresh atmosphere of the forest via a leisurely walk. It quickly became recognised as a cornerstone of preventive health care and healing in Japanese medicine and is now recommended as a natural tonic for the mind, body and soul. It’s not only a form of exercise but also an opportunity to truly connect with nature. Research shows that immersing yourself in a forest-like environment aids in preventing cancers and other diseases while allowing you to cherish the beauty of nature through all the five senses.
“Every study I have read says that ‘forest bathers’ demonstrate reductions in stress, anger, anxiety, depression and sleeplessness,” said Banyan Tree Krabi’s sustainability manager Thepsuda Loyjiw. “In fact, after just 15 minutes of forest bathing blood pressure drops, stress levels are reduced, and concentration and mental clarity improve. So what better way to demonstrate Banyan Tree’s commitment to wellbeing and the environment by offering this activity to our guests.” She added, “The hiking trail begins directly behind our resort, and winds up towards some spectacular viewpoints and waterfalls.”
Guests can wallow in a stunning panoramic viewpoint offering vistas of the surrounding islands in the Andaman Sea, nearby Khao Ngon Nak National Park. It’s a picturesque spot for hiking and appreciating the natural environment. So what do you say? Time for some shinrin-yoku at Banyan Tree Krabi?

Also stay tuned for the rollout of Banyan Tree’s Wellbeing Sanctuaries in 2021-22. The first chapter was launched earlier this year in China and will progressively be launched in Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Thailand, and Vietnam in the months ahead.
