Calling all wine connoisseurs! On April 29th, Madison Steakhouse at Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel is hosting an exquisite five-course wine pairing dinner by five leading female sommeliers. ‘An Ode to Passion’ aims to power the future of wine stewardship in Thailand by helping its female wine professionals shine.
The five wine experts come from some of Bangkok’s leading fine-dining establishments. Expect a deft touch, from the choice of wine to food presentation, as these hands-on sommeliers guide you through their beverage selections, explaining the profile and origins of each wine. By revealing the labels only at the time of serving, the organizers direct the spotlight on the talented sommeliers instead of the wineries. Working closely with Anantara Siam chefs, they helped curate food pairings to complement five mystery wines selected across several flavor classifications—water, wood, fire, earth, and air.
To start, devour an amuse-bouche of Atlantic sea bass carpaccio, espelette pepper and prosecco granita served with sorrels and caviar beurre blanc and—most importantly—paired with ‘River Reflection’, a mystery wine selected by established beverage ambassador and sommelier Sudarat Jankaew.
Prakaydaow Phoohuatalat, an assistant restaurant manager and sommelier at one of Bangkok’s finest five-star establishments, will walk guests through her tasting notes and explain why she pairs a complex white from Piedmont with crispy giant tiger prawn, lemon chilli paste, and shallot confit espuma.
For the main course, enjoy a selection titled “A Feminist on Fire” by Chanidapha Rakpirom, sommelier and restaurant manager at Ki Izakaya. Savor succulent roasted duck breast, parsnip, and cherry duck jus paired with elegant red wine. A combination of venison and foie gras pithiviers, celeriac purée, and blueberry sauce, the second main course will be accompanied by a complex and earthy yet powerful red recommended by Atchara Wongthai Palleros, sommelier at Central Wine Cellar.
Nutawan Jumpanak, wine guru at Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel and Thailand’s first ever female to take home the title of Best Sommelier in 2019, will wrap up the evening with a perfectly balanced combination of pink chocolate, mulberry mint compote, strawberry crumble, rose gel, and an exquisite champagne with notes of flora and red fruits.
Priced at 4,490++ baht per person, including wine pairings, ‘An Ode to Passion’ wine dinner will be served on Friday, April 29, 2022 from 6:30 pm to 9pm at Madison, Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel. To reserve your seat, please call 02-126-8866, or email dining.asia@anantara.com.
