Bulky male figures in leather military costumes by the late erotic Finnish artist Touka Valio Laaksonen, AKA Tom of Finland, feature on the new “The Sailor” collection of men’s clothing brand Leisure Projects. Known for his sexy yet humorous artworks that replicate the MSM’s postwar fantastical universe, Tom was an inspirational figure in the LGBTQ+ community and has influenced the likes of Robert Mapplethorpe, Jean Paul Gautier, and Freddie Mercury. He has collaborated with such international brands as Diesel and JW Anderson, and this is his first Asian collaboration.
“The Sailor” collection shows the ideal guys in Tom of Finland’s universe dressed in navy uniforms, merged with a whimsical design in the vein of Leisure Projects.
As part of the collaboration process, Leisure Projects partnered with the Tom of Finland Foundation, which has a mission to present and educate in the field of erotic art. Thai artist Oat Montien, the first Thai artist chosen to participate in the Tom of Finland Foundation’s Artist in Residence project in 2022, is also showcasing his work from July 21 to August 14, 2022 at Central: The Original Store.
Ten percent of the proceeds from the sale of the “The Sailor” collection will be donated to the Tom of Finland Foundation to support further works of the organization.
