Is Bangkok Art Biennale a success?

Cartier parties are known as parties-of-the-year among Bangkok’s glitz and glam crowd, with their extravagant takeovers of iconic locations and truly star-studded guest list. Having been on hiatus due to the pandemic, it came back with a vengeance last week when it was hosted at Hua Lampong Station with Jackson Wang as the loudly-advertised VVIP attendee. The invitation-only party is so exclusive with a strict no plus-one policy, meaning elites aren’t allowed to bring their SO unless their SO scores an invitation themself. Otherwise, it’s a rare occasion to witness that many Thai celebrities, fashionistas, and members of high society in one place, and somehow I managed to be part of the mix.
Here are 21 real-time thoughts this wallflower had while attending the recent Clash de Cartier party:
1. Woah, it’s crowded. Like rock-concert crowded, except we’re all in heels and cocktail dresses.
2. I’m lucky I decided to wear heels because I’m drowning in people as it is.
3. Daboyway and Ploy Chermarn are squished against me right now. I wonder if this is as awkward for them as it is for me.
4. Who are these Korean boyband-looking guys everyone’s asking to take photos with? God, I’m so out of touch with the new celebrities.
5. I hope everyone here is “negative” otherwise we’re definitely all getting it.
6. Okay, we are finally moving into a new room.
7. Where is the actual jewelry? I only see celebs.
8. How on Earth did I make the guest list?
9. Jackson Wang fans could actually crash this party if they really wanted to by just dressing like a guest. No one really checks the admission bracelet.
10. I know Jackson Wang is two feet away from me, but I’m literally too short to see.
11. I should have eaten dinner before this. There are more Jackson Wang fans waiting outside in the rain than there are canapes in here. By a lot.
12. Is one hour in too early to leave?
13. Oh here comes Pod Modern Dog. I guess I’ll stay for a bit.
14. I’ve forgotten the words to this song. Is Pod going to notice? I’m right in front of him.
15. The Cartier ballerinas are the best.
16. I wish I were a Cartier ballerina.
17. I regret wearing heels. My feet hurt.
18. I should have worn pointe shoes! Elevation on demand. Flat all the other times.
19. Okay, time to find the jewelry. Let’s not forget the purpose of this event.
20. If I don’t take a photo, was I really here? *ceremonious selfie*
21. Is two hours in too early to leave? Should I try to make it to three? Yeah, three hours is commendable.
