21 Thoughts of a Wallflower at the Negroni Week 2022 Launch

21 Thoughts of a Wallflower at the Negroni Week 2022 Launch

#11 To be honest, I think I can only handle one Negroni.

Ah, Negroni Week. The annual global event hosted by Campari and Imbibe Magazine that encourages alcoholics to do what they do best—drink, specifically Negronis—for a good cause. This year, for its 10th anniversary, Negroni Week has partnered with Slow Food, a grassroots movement dealing with food security and the preservation of local food cultures. Part of the proceeds generated from the sales of Negronis this entire week and around the world will be paid forward to community-led projects for improving food systems and grants for those achieving change in the field of F&B.

In Bangkok, Negroni Week 2022 kicked off at the Kimpton Maa-Lai hotel on Monday, September 12, with the spectacle of breaking the World Guinness Record for the largest Negroni. After the record was inevitably broken by a 630-liter aperitivo, partying ensued upstairs at Kimpton’s Bar.Yard.

Here are 21 real-time thoughts this wallflower had while attending the Negroni Week 10th anniversary launch at Kimpton Maa-Lai Bangkok.

1. I’ve absolutely gotten peer-pressured by both Koktail co-workers and Alchemy Thailand associates to come out to this tonight.

2. My stilettos are really doing a number on Kimpton’s lawn. They should have told us ladies that we would be standing on (wet) grass to witness the world record breaking. I would have worn chunky heels. The lawn’s going to need repairing in the morrow.

3. What will they do with this 630-liter bath of Negroni once the record has been broken? Distribute it to all of us tonight? “Negronis on tap, straight from the giant acrylic and ice block, everyone!”

4. How many glasses of Negroni does 630 liters yield? Let me Google that.
(Answer: 2,130.)

5. Will they garnish it? How would that even work?

6. Is there any way that they would fall short of breaking the record? No, right?

7. Here comes the Guinness adjudicator and his tape measure!

8. And there goes the confetti, into the world’s largest Negroni.

9. DJ Carla is like the Dick Clark of Negroni Week.

10. Up to Bar.Yard we go.

11. To be honest, I think I can only handle one Negroni. I am a weakling.

12. Thank goodness for Campari Spritz!

13. If I don’t take a photo at the Negroni Week photobooth was I even here?

14. Symphony Loo (Campari’s Brand Ambassador) is such an adorable human.

15. PDA in the photobooth! Did anyone else see that?

16. It’s someone’s 23rd birthday tonight. Oh to be that young.

17. Oh no, people who recognize me are beckoning me to the dance floor.

18. *dies of secondhand embarrassment from a friend making song requests with the DJ*

19. I do not know any Cardi B songs.

20. I’m afraid to ask who this rapper is.

21. Seriously where does the Guinness World Record Negroni end up? I would like to know but may never.
