Born in the Netherlands in 1853, Van Gogh’s path of self-discovery began in 1869 with his first job, as an apprentice to an art dealer, but it wasn’t until 1880 that he decided to become an artist. Before moving to Paris, he painted the rural life around him and began experimenting with colours and techniques inspired by the artistic movement of the time, Impressionism. Van Gogh brought his work to life by his bold use of colour, dramatic brushstrokes, and the impasto technique— applying thick paint in rough strokes to create depth, emotion, and movement. Considering the short time he was active as a painter, Van Gogh was exceptionally prolific as he created over 800 paintings and 1,100 drawings in just one decade.
With over 200 paintings, 500 drawings, and more than 700 letters, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2023, together with Montblanc. The museum houses the largest collection of works by Vincent van Gogh anywhere in the world.

The collection introduces five limited edition pens that pay homage to the various personal and artistic periods in the painter’s life, taking design inspiration from some of his most well-known works.
A fountain pen and a rollerball version, the limited edition 4810 celebrates the painter’s time in Arles with design details evoking the Provencal wheatfields and one of his most famous paintings, Sunflowers.
The limited edition 888 reflects the artist’s time in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence and Auvers-sur-Oise with details of the skies and another one of his most famous paintings, Wheatfield with Crows.

The design of this edition limited to 90 pieces celebrates Van Gogh’s time in Arles, reflecting his Provencal landscapes seen in his work The Harvest and paying homage to his impasto technique.
