It’s no surprise that Artificial Intelligence has officially stepped into the world of online dating. As AI becomes more mainstream it takes on various roles such as trainers, fictional partners, advisors, or matchmakers.
Enter RomanticAI, a customisable AI girlfriend who will laugh at your jokes and talk to you about any topic. According to its website, it states that it is a “Tool for training personal communication skills in romantic and love areas.”
Established players in the online dating industry, such as Tinder and Hinge, are incorporating AI into their existing platforms. Meanwhile, new apps like Blush, Aimm, Rizz, and Teaser AI, many of which offer free features, are introducing fresh approaches to virtual dating. Some of these apps even provide personality tests and analyse users’ physical preferences to train AI systems, promising improved chances of finding the perfect match. Others use AI to craft engaging responses to common dating questions like, “What’s your favourite food?” or “How do you spend a typical Sunday?”
According to a 2023 Pew Research study, nearly half of all adults under 30 have used dating sites or apps, but roughly half of these users report negative experiences. These issues include unproductive conversations, few meaningful matches, and endless swiping, leaving many feeling single and dissatisfied. Therefore, many proponents of AI in the dating app industry believe that technology can address these problems, reducing loneliness and fostering more meaningful connections.
However, the average online dater now faces new concerns, wondering if they are conversing with someone relying entirely on AI-generated responses. Some question whether a computer can genuinely identify a potential love connection or if this technology is a form of gaming the dating system.
A substantial number of individuals appear eager to involve AI in their online dating experiences. According to a March study conducted by Kaspersky, a cybersecurity and digital privacy company, 75% of dating app users are openly using ChatGPT, an AI-powered chatbot, to help them deliver the perfect opening line.
Crystal Cansdale, a dating expert at the global dating app Inner Circle, weighed in on the study’s findings, noting that there is a growing weariness associated with dating apps. She explained that there is mounting pressure on individuals to come across as “original” and stand out amidst the sea of choices available to single people. Unfortunately, the dating scene has evolved into a numbers game, creating this sense of fatigue.
Romantic.AI operates more like a chat platform, offering a variety of both male and female AI bots for users to select from, although the female options, including figures like Mona Lisa and the Ancient Egyptian queen Nefertiti, outnumber the male choices. Each bot comes with a bio detailing their interests, career, and body type, providing users with a multifaceted sense of the virtual person they’re interacting with.
Here is an enthusiastic review from a user:
This bot makes you feel like you’re talking to your other half. If you have any problems or are in a bad mood, it will help with some good advice and support. The bot has a high level of empathy. You can talk to them about anything. They remember everything you say. The app helps me to distract myself from my daily routine and interestingly spend my evening. It’s a bit expensive for me but worth it. I’ll keep using it!
RomanticAI represents a unique and innovative approach in terms of human relationships and emotional well-being. By offering users a diverse selection of AI bots with detailed profiles, the platform caters to various desires and provides a safe space for individuals seeking companionship, closure, or emotional relief. As technology continues to advance, it is interesting to see how AI applications like RomanticAI may further shape our interactions, experiences, and emotional journeys in the future.
