Jim Thompson, along with Inspiring Girls and WomenSet, organised a special event to mark International Women’s Day on March 8th at the Jim Thompson Heritage Quarter. The event, titled “Inspire, Influence & Impact: Women Leading Change,” aimed to recognise and support women in leadership roles both in Thailand and globally.
The day included talks from women leaders Jariya Koonlinthip from BMW Financial Services Thailand, Vorachand Thiengtham from Alka Plus, and Methawee Thatsanasateankit from Vulcan Coalition.
Additionally, creative workshops were led by Naphatsorn ‘Momay’ Buranasiri, focusing on using Jim Thompson’s fashion and accessories to help participants feel more confident by finding and showcasing their unique style.
Momay shared insights on how this could be achieved in various ways such as the clothing colour wheel. This wheel is a helpful guide for selecting and matching colours in clothing and accessories. It’s based on the colour wheel used in art and design, showing how colours relate to each other.
This is how the clothing colour wheel works:
These are the bold and beautiful foundation of the colour wheel – think of them as the superheroes of your outfit. We’re talking about red, blue, and yellow, the powerhouses that command attention and steal the spotlight whenever they make an appearance.

When two primary colours decide to join forces, magic happens! Say hello to orange (red mixed with yellow), green (blue mixed with yellow), and purple (red mixed with blue), the cool kids born from the epic fusion of their primary parents. They bring versatility and charm to any ensemble, complementing their primary pals.
Now, things get a little spicy with the world of tertiary colours. Mixing a primary with a neighbouring secondary creates these vibrant hybrids – think fiery red-orange, lush blue-green, or regal purple-blue. Tertiary colours are like the secret agents of style, adding depth to your look.
Picture a group of best friends hanging out, each one bringing out the best in the other. That’s what analogous colours do! They’re the squad of shades that cosy up next to each other on the colour wheel, creating a harmonious vibe that’s as easy on the eyes as it is on the soul. For example, pairing shades of blue and green or yellow and orange.
Brace yourself for some serious fireworks, because complementary colours are here to shake things up! These dynamic duos sit directly opposite each other on the colour wheel – think fiery red with cool green or electric blue with zesty orange. Outfits featuring complementary colours create a bold and striking contrast.
If simplicity is your jam, then monochromatic colours are your spirit animal. Pick a hue, any hue, and run with it! From soft pastels to deep jewel tones, Monochromatic outfits are sleek and elegant, relying on subtle contrasts rather than stark differences in colour.
Last but certainly not least, we have the unsung heroes of the colour wheel – neutrals. Black, white, grey, brown, beige – these are the MVPs that hold it all together, providing a solid foundation for your outfit to shine. Neutrals serve as versatile bases for outfits and can help balance brighter or more vibrant colours. They’re like the calm in the storm, the yin to your yang, the peanut butter to your jelly.
By understanding how colours relate to each other on the clothing colour wheel, individuals can create outfits that are visually appealing, balanced, and express their personal style effectively. With these vibrant hues at your disposal, there’s no limit to the fashion adventures that await. So go ahead, mix, match, and make some magic happen!
