If you’re looking for a classic Christmas movie with a slightly scary twist, A Christmas Carol could be the perfect choice. It’s a favourite of Jeff Satur’s, and your taste might align with his. Adapted from a novel by Charles Dickens first published in 1843, the story follows Ebenezer Scrooge, a miserly and cold-hearted old man who despises Christmas and is always mean to others. Three spirits appear to warn him of his bad behaviour by showing him the different stages of his life, from past, present and the disastrous future if he continues down this route.

The story revolves around the character of Ebenezer Scrooge, brought to life with eerie animation. Played by Jim Carrey, he captivates the audience with his grumpy yet humorous performance, alongside co-stars Gary Oldman and Colin Firth. A Christmas Carol resonates well with Jeff’s taste, as it is a balance between whimsy and cheer, much like how he combines dreamy and dark core in his albums. Stories like this provide moral lessons through festive events, adding disturbing elements and illustrating a real-life tale. It is well worth adding this to your watch-list.
