New Sneaker Drop: Onitsuka Tiger’s Mexico 66 GDX shoe

Onitsuka Tiger’s signature shoe takes it up a notch with its newest high-end model.

Sneakerhead or not, as soon as you see the iconic stripes of Mexico 66, you know it’s Onitsuka Tiger. Needless to say, the charm of Mexico 66 goes beyond its pop-culture connection.

Famous for its classic design with iconic stripes and signature silhouette, the Japanese fashion brand is now kicking off a new chapter. From NIPPON MADE, with the ‘Made in Japan’ collection, Onitsuka Tiger introduced a new high-end model – the Mexico 66 GDX series.

Every iconic sneaker has a substantial backstory as does the Mexico 66, born in 1966 when it was first designed for the 1968 Olympic Games pre-trials in Mexico. During that time, a white model was introduced, dressed in premium white leather, stitched with red and blue tiger stripes. The tricolour version instantly stole the limelight with its retro-chic aesthetics and even today, those classic elements are retained in the model.

The GDX series combines Japanese craftsmanship, passed down the generations, with advanced technology, together showcasing a contemporary collection that merges fashion with sports and heritage with innovation. The new edition offers a sophisticated look boasting fine Japanese leather throughout the upper flap with embroidered Onitsuka Tiger Stripe. The signature design of the MEXICO 66 series combined with cross parts is available in contrasting black and white. The highlight is the comforting cushioning and resilience in the heel portion made with an AMPLIFOAM™ midsole and with original compound material.

The MEXICO 66 GDX shoe is now available for 14,000 baht in Onitsuka Tiger Global Flagship Store Siam Square One.
