You might have heard music heals the soul. But did you know going to concert could make you live longer? So for those concert-goers out there, we’ve got great news.
A report conducted by O2 and Patrick Fagan, an Associate Lecturer specialising in behavioural science at Goldsmith’s University suggests attending a live concert, even for just 20 minutes, can boost your sense of well-being by approximately 21%. Moreover, it indicates a direct correlation between high levels of well-being and an extension in lifespan of up to nine years.
The results were based on special tests that measured people’s feelings and heart rate during various activities like going to shows, doing yoga, and walking dogs. Surprisingly, going to gigs increased participants’ well-being by 21%. It also made them feel better about themselves, closer to others, and more mentally stimulated.
In addition, the research found that going to concerts regularly is linked to higher well-being. People who attend live concerts once every two weeks or more are most likely to rate their happiness, contentment, productivity, and self-esteem at the highest level. A survey of Brits showed that more than two-thirds (67%) feel happier when they experience live music compared to just listening to music at home. This indicates that the shared experience of attending live music events plays a crucial role in increasing well-being.
Patrick Fagan, Expert in Behavioural Science and Associate Lecturer at Goldsmith’s University, said:
“Our research showcases the profound impact gigs have on feelings of health, happiness and wellbeing—with fortnightly or regular attendance being the key. Combining all of our findings with O2’s research, we arrive at a prescription of a gig a fortnight which could pave the way for almost a decade more life years.”
So with multiple concerts coming up in Bangkok, have you booked your tickets yet?
