For whisky lovers and art enthusiasts, The Macallan’s latest release, A Night on Earth in Jerez de la Frontera, is an invitation to reflect on the threads of history, culture and craft. Launched as part of the brand’s 200th-anniversary celebration, this limited-edition single malt combines tradition with artistry, presenting a story rooted in heritage and inspired by forward-looking creativity.
Jerez de la Frontera, a city in Spain’s Andalusia region, holds a special place in The Macallan’s journey. Known as the heartland of sherry wine, it’s here that the brand’s iconic oak casks are seasoned with sherry, imparting the flavours that define their whiskies. With A Night on Earth in Jerez, The Macallan pays tribute to the city’s role in its production process and captures the spirit of the festive season through a lens of cultural and artistic inspiration.
This special release draws from a blend of European and American sherry-seasoned oak casks and a rare addition of Pedro Ximénez casks, carefully selected to add depth and sweetness. The result is a whisky that evokes the flavours of Spanish traditions, with tasting notes of grapes, pastry and anise—paying homage to local customs like eating 12 grapes at midnight on New Year’s Eve and enjoying the festive treat of Pestiños.
To translate the essence of Jerez into visuals, The Macallan collaborated with María Melero, a local artist deeply connected to the city’s culture. Melero’s artwork, featured on the bottle and packaging, captures the warmth of Jerez’s festive season. From the crimson skies and sunlit vineyards to roses symbolising the strength of the vines, every detail of the design celebrates the city’s beauty and traditions.
To elevate the experience further, The Macallan partnered with Potong to create a dining journey that pairs with the whisky. Chef Pam (Pichaya Soontornyanakij) designed a tasting menu inspired by the concept of “time”. Each course echoes a fusion of nostalgia and contemporary techniques, mirroring the whisky’s own balance of history and modernity.
This whisky tells a story—a tribute to the artistry of whisky-making, the culture of Jerez and the shared moments of joy that define celebrations.
A Night on Earth in Jerez embodies the idea that craftsmanship is as much about the journey as it is about the result. As The Macallan concludes its bicentennial celebrations, it leaves us with a reminder that every sip carries a piece of the past and a hope for what’s to come.
Available in December, A Night on Earth in Jerez can be found at leading retailers or enjoyed alongside Potong’s seasonal menu until the end of the year. For those who appreciate the intersection of culture, artistry and flavour, this release is an invitation to celebrate life’s moments—past, present and future.
