Amidst the whirlwind of change that is the Bangkok dining scene Eat Me stands out with its inventive cuisine and captivating ambience, defying its veteran status to remain one of the city’s most esteemed venues. The allure of this two-storey set up is undeniable, with a cosy bar downstairs and an upstairs restaurant and balcony enveloped in lush greenery. Chef and proprietor Tim Butler has never wavered from offering ingredient-led flavour forward cuisine. Menu items veer from the lightly refreshing to deliciously decadent. The former, a warm lobster salad with pomelo, avocado and coconut is a stand out. The latter, a sea urchin and ikura risotto with yuzu and a delicate touch of wasabi, is a memorable combo. More substantial main offerings include charred octopus with romesco, fennel and lemon, and an indescribably succulent Australian wagyu beef tenderloin, with maitake mushrooms, a hint of rosemary and an “old school” red wine reduction, reminding us why Tim is revered in the chef community of Thailand. There is always the option of sharing a house signature Diamantina shire wagyu tomahawk with a tempting marble score accompanied by a side of buttery bone marrow. The wine selection is appealing as you would expect from such a complete venue, and cocktails, often with strong local influences, are exemplary.
Wagyu laab is legendary, but wagyu A5 tataki is the foodie’s choice.
