Review

Situated on Bangkok’s famous Yaowarat Road, shop house restaurants line the pavement alongside street vendors, gold shops, and Chinese apothecaries, creating a vibrant atmosphere in Chinatown—a true feast for the senses. Hagow exemplifies a charming eatery that offers an intriguing dining experience in this lively area. A relatively new addition, Hagow combines traditional design with a contemporary twist on familiar dishes. As the name suggests, it excels in its namesake hagow dumplings—plump, clam-sealed packages filled with succulent shrimp, expertly wrapped in a delicate rice flour casing that isn’t overly doughy. Besides dumplings, the menu features soft, airy Chinese buns, including oozy purple sweet potato lava buns for a subtly sweet bite. Unique offerings like spinach and cheese rice noodle rolls add a modern flair and are surprisingly addictive. Larger plates, such as rad na noodles, stand out on the menu. This comforting dish features large flat rice noodles, fried sea bass, and boiled vegetables, all bathed in a rich, savoury gravy. For dessert, be sure to order sesame dumplings, a gently sweet treat enjoyed as a dessert or snack. While cold beer options are available, the drink menu mainly focuses on soft beverages, including teas and herbal juices. Iced Hong Kong milk tea pairs perfectly with dim sum, making it an ideal choice.
