Review

The Bangkok skyline wouldn’t be what it is without the Banyan Tree Bangkok, and Vertigo, a pioneer of the city’s rooftop dining scene. Veering away from modern-day experimentation, Vertigo is committed to the familiar delivered with style. Recommended starters include crab and claw bruschetta, an elegant presentation of generous fresh crabmeat, topped with a lobster claw and garnished with ikura and microgreens, accompanied by several crunchy toasts. Signature duck salad comprises tender, tasty meat, combined with tossed greens, pomegranate, avocado and coated in a richly piquant hoisin dressing, before a dusting of sesame seeds. For mains, there is a range of meat and seafood options, from top-grade Australian beef cuts, both grass and grain-fed, to timeless black Angus chateaubriand, for sharing with a multitude of sauces and sides to accompany. For non-beef lovers, there are equally tempting platters, including lamb rack or a kurobuta pork chop, fresh shellfish and butter-poached Canadian lobster. The dessert menu includes vegan chocolate banana and house-made sorbets and gelato. The wine list is extensive, as is the house and classic cocktails and mocktail menu. Staff are well-rehearsed in the rooftop routine, enthusiastically seeking to take excellent photos for diners, and even offering complimentary printed and framed pictures as souvenirs.
