Director, CHAT Architects
Industry : The Arts
Chatpong earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture from UC Berkeley and a master’s in the subject from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design. In 2004 he formed Bangkok Architectural Research (b/A/R) with partner Varoot Samalapa. Today, as well as teaching at MIT School of Architecture and Planning, he runs his own studio—Chat Architects. A 2020 Silpathorn Award laureate in the field of architecture, several of his projects have been developed from a conceptualized approach he refers to as ‘Bangkok Bastards’, which essentially involves surveys of architectural creations constructed within limited budgets and spaces. From construction worker camps to roadside parlours, Chuenruedeemon decodes the ingredients from which ‘bastard architecture’ is born.
