Dr Thanyaporn is a lecturer and researcher at Vidyasirimedhi Institute of Science and Technology. Her research, which earned her a L’Oréal Thailand For Women in Science 2019 Fellowship, aims to convert organic waste from food and agricultural industries, municipalities, communities and households into valuable biofuels and biochemicals. A 2017 survey revealed that the amount of municipal solid waste throughout the country was so astronomical that it was impacting ecological systems. As a result, she developed the C-ROS project (Cash Return from ZeroWaste and Segregation of Trash), which is an integrative biotechnology platform developing ZeroWaste technologies that allow conversion of food waste into high quality bio-gases that are clean burning. This is fully aligned with Thailand’s policy to develop a Bio-, Circular and Green (BCG) Economy. In the past year the project has been implemented in three locations in Nan Province, where the communities involved exchanged segregated waste for bio-fertilser. Her next goal is to generate electricity from bio-gas for use in public areas and electricity from hydrogen gas to fuel eco vehicle batteries.
