Opened to the public on January 28, ‘Love-Camp-Explore-Dreams’ is an exhibition by renowned architect and interior designer, Bill Bensley. Hosted at the River City Bangkok’s RCB Galleria until February 28, 2022, through four chapters, the exhibition shows Bill’s evolution as an artist, how he sifts through his surroundings to create art in various mediums from daily life. Here’s a snippet of what’s in store in each of the sections.
As an environmentalist and a landscape architect, the “love” part of the show is very close to Bensley’s heart. He believes the only thing that should be separated by color is laundry as he seeks to teach people through art just as he does through the hotels he designs. Touching upon the topic of racism in his paintings, he presents the serious issue with humor as a segue to meaningful conversation.
This part is all about the distinctive charms of the LGBTQ+ community. The artist portrays the love he has for Thailand with a myriad of reasons, particularly how remarkably open-minded people here can be.
In this section, Bensley introduces us to the kind people he met on a trip to Papua in 2019. While aboard the Kudanil Explorer, he explored remote islands that have minimal connection to modern society. ‘Explore’ also includes inspiration from other Bensley travels: Portugal, Luang Prabang, plus his enthusiasm of an upcoming trip to South America.
An adventure into the figments of Bensley’s imagination, this part is about all the fun designs we can possibly dream up. At the Bensley Cinema, learn about who Bill is as a designer and what Bensley, the studio, does to facilitate dreams—the starting point of everything.
Entry to ‘Love-Camp-Explore-Dreams is free. All sales revenue from artworks will be donated towards Shinta Mani Foundation. Please note that the exhibition will be closed at 7pm on January 28th and at 4pm on February 4th for private events.
