Dua Lipa Designs Versace’s Latest Collection

The barbie-butterflied collection debuted at the lavish Cannes Film Festival

Koktail just loves unique collaborations in the fashion world. The latest collection that’s definitely worth sharing to our readers is entitled the Versace La Vacanza 2023 women’s collection, which is co-designed by three-time Grammy award-winning artist Dua Lipa and the renowned Donatella Versace, the brand’s creative director since 1997.

The singer has long been a friend of the Italian Fashion house, she has worn Versace both on stage and on the red carpet for many years. Now, she has made her way into the world of design and created a summer, holiday-inspired collection.

The two talented ladies first began working together in 2018 when Lipa wore a daring leotard and denim jacket combination for her first ever Brit Award performance. The collection debuted and came to life at the lush villa in Cannes on May 23, in the midst of the world’s most extravagant film festival—the Cannes Film Festival. Guest list, invitees included influencers and musicians like Troye Sivan, Rina Sawayama, and Peggy Gou.

Inspired by Versace’s storied archives from the 1990s, the collection began with Lipa sending Donatella sketches of her vision. The runway channelled bold Barbie energy adorned by metallic mini skirts and bikinis, butterfly and polka-dot prints. The colour palette was mostly filled with pastel hues that featured sky blue monogrammed suits and powder pink mini dresses. Lipa is also featured on the soundtrack for Greta Gerwing’s upcoming Barbie movie and wore Versace to tease the track.

Lipa noted at the press conference how mind blown and touched she was to have worked with the atelier. Looking up to Donatella, she appreciates how Donatella cares about how women feel in the clothes, which highly aligns with the house’s values. “She wants to make sure that you feel really strong and empowered—this is something that I really resonate with. I'm so lucky that we've had the opportunity to do this together, it's a dream come true, honestly."

The 'La Vacanza' collection is already available to shop at Versace online.
