Just Married!: Miss Grand Argentina and Miss Grand Puerto Rico

The pageant queens fell in love during the 2020 Miss Grand International Competition, and now they're Mrs. and Mrs.

Former Miss Grand Argentina and Miss Grand Puerto Rico announced on Instagram over the weekend that they have tied the knot after being in a private relationship for two years.

The newlyweds—Mariana Varela, 26, from Argentina, and Fabiola Valentín from Puerto Rico, 22—first met in 2020 when they represented their countries in the Miss Grand International competition in Thailand. Although neither contestant took the crown, both made it to the top 10.

The couple shared their big news on Instagram in a 30-second video with romantic snippets of their travels in South America together. In just a matter of days, the video announcing their love to the world surpassed over 116,000 likes and 2.6 million views. The comment section also received support from fellow pageant queens and fans alike.

The clip also included the proposal, which showed a scene of fairy lights, letter balloons that spelled out “Marry Me?”, and rose petals that formed the phrase “Te Amo”. The video ended with the couple sharing a kiss outside the Marriage Bureau in San Juan, where they tied the knot on October 28.

Puerto Rico used to ban same-sex marriage until 2015, when the country changed to recognize marriage as a contract between two people, not solely between a man and a woman.
