Athip previously worked as a business and marketing development manager in the energy disruptive innovation department within the PTT Group, trying to create a new business stream in Thailand’s power sector using renewable energy and energy storage solutions to power a smart city. His research is an extension of a remarkable project he carried out in 2019, PTT’s first commercial energy storage study at Chiang Mai University (CMU). The project allows CMU to store excess solar energy captured on weekends for use on class days, maximizing the usage of clean energy. Since then Athip has expanded his experience in renewables and energy storage, researching cutting-edge technology to find ways of generating clean energy and more efficient ways of using it. Ultimately, he says, the over-arching quest behind his work is finding ways to balance the seemingly unrelenting quest for profit with human and environmental rights.
