Saruta, or Pin, set up a company to transform worthless steel debris in everyday life into art objects and home decorative items. Growing up within a family that owned a steel company, the sound of metalwork was part of her everyday environment. But after graduating in fine and applied arts, she imagined that there could be more to the metal scraps around her. From metal art objects, she began to incorporate the pieces into spaces, and soon her chandeliers–like those that decorate ICONSIAM– became sought after. She is proud of winning Designer of the year 2021 (Product Design), not only for herself as designer, but for helping to improve the skills of her workers and their career opportunities. More recently, she collaborated with Nespresso and Wonderfruit to reuse coffee capsules and scrap metal to create an installation for the Nespresso store in Siam Paragon. In the works are a new studio cum training centre for young people to get to know more about metal art, design and craftsmanship. She feels proud of creating resource-efficient art and design for the future of this world, and of sharing her knowledge for sustainability.
