Review

This is the original branch of Coca, a long-standing Sino-Thai institution that opened in 1957 and continues to serve its loyal patrons with traditional Cantonese favourites and hot pot dining. This family-run establishment, now in its third generation, has recently expanded its menu to include premium selections of meat and seafood, and a focus on nostalgic “heritage” dishes perfect for gatherings of all sizes. For starters, fried stuffed prawn delivers an impressive balance of texture, with a crisp exterior and soft yielding centre. Barbecue combo offers a trifecta of flavours with roasted duck, honey-glazed char siu, and crispy pork belly served with fragrant yellow mustard, each piece prepared in flavour-packed bites. From the heritage menu, suckling pig is a must-try; its crackling skin and tender, moist meat are a tribute to traditional cooking techniques. Steamed river prawns with glass noodles are delicately seasoned and allow the fresh sweetness of the seafood to shine. Classic hot pots include; choices of sliced pork, marinated chicken or ocean bounty of live sea crab, Phuket lobster, fresh fish maw and abalone. The drinks list has a range of traditional teas and some wines. The selection of non-alcoholic beverages, including herbal infusions, is a refreshing highlight. Coca remains a Bangkok classic, offering a blend of heritage and modernity, an excellent choice for regulars and newcomers.
