Bangkok’s dining scene places disproportionate value on newer restaurant concepts. Fireplace, however, has been a fixture in the city at the InterContinental Hotel since the 1960s and for those who cherish a classic Europe-inspired steakhouse, it is difficult to fault this venerable temple of beef. A refined atmosphere, attentive staff, and luxuriously upholstered, high-backed chairs hit appealing notes from the outset. A delicious New Zealand pinot noir exemplifies a wine list boasting hundreds of bottles (many of them biodynamic). Its arrival is trailed by a plump oyster in green herb sauce: an off-menu enticer. Lobster bisque is as rich and full of crustacean flavours as you could wish, while akami tuna tataki with orange ponzu sauce offers a lighter curtain raiser for the mains. Premium beef is the spotlight here. Choose from cuts including a Miyazaki wagyu striploin and Margaret River wagyu ribeye, accompanied by a buttery, citrusy Béarnaise sauce, and a side of al dente broccolini with chili, lime, and garlic oil. Let Fireplace transport you to steak Valhalla. For non-beef lovers, there are other equally stellar options, including lamb rack, or butter-roasted Canadian lobster with Serrano pepper butter. Complete your experience with a twist on traditional baked Alaska, packed with vanilla, chocolate, and cherry ice creams, sponge, meringue, and a boozy drizzle of Bourbon or memorable crêpes Suzette.
Every Thursday, enjoy live jazz performance by Coco LaShaun, from 7pm to 9.45pm.
