Mrs B has established itself as a favourite with Phuket foodies. Chef and partner the effervescent Alex Oddy, delights diners with elevated classics and ever-present signatures. The ambience is warm and convivial, and the open kitchen provides a tapestry of drama as chef’s plate the cuts from the wood-fired grill. Begin with Australian grain-fed tartare, topped with quail egg and served with fresh sourdough or prawn gyoza pot stickers, succulent, flavourful and oh-so-satisfying. Continue with char siu pork with hot mustard, kale and sesame or pasta, rich braised lamb ragoût tagliatelle or mushroom pappardelle with garlic miso cream, truffle oil and sprinkled with parmesan. Free-range Chiang Mai milk-brined pork chop is a standout, the flesh super white and tender, slightly charred from the grill and served with a choice of sauces. Bangers and mash is another winner of artisan pork and herb sausage with velvet mashed potato, surrounded by a stellar onion gravy. Roast cauliflower steak with confit onion, dukkha, soy cream and bathed in raisin caper dressing is a vegan option equally popular with non-vegans. Sides include rich beef-dripping fried rice and an incredible array of potatoes. For dessert, pavlova nods to chef Alex’s roots or choose a zesty lemon tart with brûléed topping. The global wine list features several exceptional bottles and old and new world choices.
