Amidst glorious grounds of an old teak trading company, Palette lies within the picturesque 137 Pillars House Hotel. Serving both international and Thai gourmet cuisine, the establishment prides itself on farm-to-kitchen fresh ingredients. Relax before the meal amidst the teak panels and plush furnishings of Jack Bain’s Bar, where “signature” and “aged teak” cocktails are orders of the day. Blow-torched tiger prawns and salmon is a light and flavoursome starter paired with baby cos lettuce, semi-dried tomatoes, and a spicy Thai chilli vinaigrette. From the Thai menu, yum som o poo nim serves refreshing pomelo with crispy soft-shell crab salad. Choose from pastas, seafood, and Thai favourites for main courses. Also listed is a fine poultry and meat selection, presented western style with complementary twists on potato and vegetable sides. Grilled Australian lamb chops are sumptuous, partnered with mint-lemon mash, ratatouille, seasonal vegetables, and a rich lamb jus. For dessert, deep-fried kataifi is recommended. Thin strands of crispy pastry have expert lightness, cradling a hot banana interior with ice cream and a delightfully tart raspberry sauce. For a local traditional option, plum for mango and sticky rice. Palette has an extensive wine list in both region and price. With five-star service and an evocative colonial setting with romantic piano accompaniment, Palette treats all the senses.
Pre-dinner contemporary cocktails in the fabulous JackBain’s Bar is highly recommended.
