Located at the north end of Beach Road, Prego occupies a corner site, in a modern, glass-fronted building with high ceilings, creating an airy and bright interior. The room is dominated by a wood-fired pizza oven kept busy throughout service. The Prego family of restaurants is the brainchild of chef Marco Boscaini, who opened the original branch in Koh Samui over twenty years ago. Begin with classic bruschetta, choosing from simple garlic butter, or the more complex garlic, basil, cherry tomato, and mozzarella. Alternatively, beef carpaccio of thinly sliced tenderloin sprinkled with pine nuts, drizzled with olive oil, and topped with rocket and parmesan or refreshing creamy burrata fresca on a bed of marinated juicy sweet tomatoes. Continue with Prego’s renowned lasagna Bolognese, slightly charred layers of flat pasta, the edges jam-packed with rich beef ragu. For linguine di Amalfi con gamberi, shrimps are served in an authentic cherry tomato seafood sauce, with zucchini adding texture and lemon freshness. A comprehensive range of meats includes Australian grilled fillet of beef with a truffle and Taleggio sauce, or roasted New Zealand lamb chops with sautéed spinach and grilled tomatoes. For dessert, choose tiramisu, served tableside and garnished with grated chocolate. Drinks include mocktails, cocktails, and a global but Italian-heavy wine list, plus an impressive offering of Italian beers.
