SoCal, at the InterContinental Bangkok, is located on the ground floor looking out on bustling Ploenchit Road with cheerful yellow umbrellas facing the ever-busy traffic. Perhaps what comes to mind with Californian cuisine are health-conscious salads with a heavy presence of avocado, but SoCal is so much more than that. The menu is a clever melting pot of fresh, premium ingredients, combined to create flavours that reflect the multiple cultures embodied in this vibrant state. From the seafood bar, try signature scorched hamachi crudo accompanied by lemongrass gazpacho, pickled jalapeño, and topped with white onion. Lobster tostada is an exciting way to stimulate one’s tastebuds, served with a piquant salsa roja. Partner this with a slightly sweeter arugula and apple salad that complements the punchy, citrus flavours. For mains, try a deliciously tender and flavourful flat iron steak from renowned Australian producer Rangers Valley, which comes with a side of caramelised roasted pumpkin topped with crunch.
