Review

VinCotto sits within the idyllic Gran Monte vineyard, with views over the rolling hills and lush green landscape of Khao Yai. Owner and winemaker Nikki Lohitnavy placed Gran Monte firmly on the map, producing some of the best wines in Thailand. Whites, including aromatic Chenin Blanc and peachy Viognier, reds of fruity Syrah, and robust cabernet sauvignon, can all be enjoyed at VinCotto. There is also a nearby retail outlet, where staff are happy to offer a little taster before you buy. At VinCotto, one may choose indoor or outdoor dining with an extensive a la carte menu littered with classic French and Italian comfort dishes. Begin with pan-fried foie gras in a local grape and verjus sauce, or choose a simple smoked salmon platter. Follow with pasta, of familiar carbonara or Bolognese, simplicity on a plate, perfectly executed, and hugely satisfying. The VinCotto kitchen team excel at mains: traditional coq au vin or braised pork with apricots and prunes, or slow-cooked veal shank in red wine, Gran Monte, of course. A wide array of steaks, ribeye, strip, and tenderloin, all served with crunchy golden fries. For dessert, creamy crème brulee or apple crumble; or a cheese platter to help finish that excellent red wine. With every dish, winemaker Nikki has suggested a pairing from the Gran Monte options.
