Many millions of tons in waste and carbon emissions are generated by textile production and much more is being produced then what is needed. The result is leftover fabric, which is what AmorpolHuvanandana tackles with Moreloop, a project he co-founded with ThamonwanVirodchaiyan. Moreloop is an online platform that connects buyers to the surplus textiles from factories. At a much lower price, these leftover orders from large fashion brands get new lives and go from being trash to treasure. What Moreloop is trying to achieve is a circular economy, as opposed to the traditional make-use-dispose model. Since the end of 2018 it has upcycled more than 15,000 kilos of surplus fabric and consequentially prevented over 225,000 kilos of carbon from being released into the atmosphere. For Amorpol perseverance is key. He says the first year was a struggle but once Moreloop landed a deal with a prominent corporation, it took off.
