After graduating with an LL M degree from Leiden University, the Netherlands, Chonlathan worked with Asylum Access Thailand, UNHCR and the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) before joining Hanns Seidel Foundation which receives funding from the German government to promote peace, democracy and development. Focussing on Thailand and Myanmar, Chonlathan works to strengthen the rule of law, the respect for human rights and sustainable development by cooperating with parliaments and other state agencies. As a lawyer, he is able to offer his expertise in constitutional law, public international law and international human rights law. He is proud of having played a part in legislation to ensure that Thailand complies to international human rights standards. He is planning a visit for Thai MPs to the German Federal Parliament to enable exchanges between the Thai and German counterparts and to promote public participation in these matters. He hopes one day that the needs and aspirations of all groups of people will be properly heard through democratic processes in Thailand. In his free time, he enjoys sports, and is a furniture and interior design enthusiast. His role model is Prof Dr Vitit Muntarbhorn, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights.
