Something of a rarity in Thailand, Nicha Rodboon is a professional ballet dancer currently plying her trade in Europe. She graduated from the English National Ballet School in London and danced for Bayerisches Staatsballett, a company in Munich, before signing on with Ballet Vlaanderen (Ballet Flanders) in Belgium in 2017. Early this year she was selected to perform a challenging piece called Kaash by Akram Khan during the company’s tour to New York, where her sister and fellow dancer Sai was in the audience. When she is not practising or performing, Nicha will often be found behind a camera. She hopes her love of photography, particularly taking images of dance, might one day lead to her own exhibition. Inspired by her father, who taught her never to give up on anything easily and by a principal dancer in Munich who encouraged her to pursue a career in dance, Nicha is enjoying every moment on stage—and when the time comes she is looking forward to coming home to share her knowledge and experience with the next generation of young Thai dancers.
