Film Director
Industry : The Arts
She’s Violette Wautier’s go-to director for music videos. She’s
made ads for brands you probably carry either in your pocket or
use somewhere at home. Her short films have been screened in
London and Melbourne, and she’s not even 30. Paphawee J, as
she is called, is defining the next generation of Thai filmmakers
as well as paving the way for more female visionaries in the
male-dominated industry. Self-taught in her current line of work,
Paphawee graduated in Communication Management from
Chulalongkorn University and worked a short stint in marketing for
Greyhound Original before pursuing her passion for filmmaking
full time. Now, she has two short films under her belt, as well as
several TV commercials and music videos for well-known brands
and Thai artists like Zom Marie, FWENDS and, of course, Violette
Wautier. When asked what accomplishments she’s most proud
of, Paphawee answers the selection of her latest short, Happy
Birthday, Great-Grandma, to many film festivals around the world,
including China where her great-grandmother was from, and the
fact that her mother can pick her work out of “a pile” of anonymous
work.
