Founder & CEO, Understand Mental Health Support
Industry : Advocacy
Dr Vitchayut, or Victor, founded Understand as a mental health support organisation while still a medical student at Srinakharinwirot University, when he also held the position of president of The Society of Medical Students of Thailand (SMST). Aware of the various social issues of contemporary youth, he created Understand as a safe space—or what he calls a “mental fitness centre”—for people to discuss their problems, learn mind skills, and build a mutually-supportive community. The pandemic proved a setback as most programmes require a face-to-face setting. However, switching to online platforms proved to be a viable alternative. These programmes cover a range of topics, from gender dysphoria, dying well, self esteem, growth mindset, and raising children. He often draws on current trending elements in the media such as hit Korean series. He finds it most fulfilling to be able to put his passion and effort into a project that benefits society and creates a more compassionate community. He relaxes, and also learns from books, music, film and travel. Sigmund Freud is his role model.
